They say that if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere. But what they didn’t tell you is what you can actually do in New York, you just can’t do quite the same anywhere else in the world. The Big Apple is a special city. It’s electric. It’s full of excitement. It’s versatile. It’s a place where over 800 different languages are spoken across five boroughs.

It’s where you can karaoke it up all night in Koreatown and wake up to have gospel brunch in Harlem the very next morning. If you’re a New Yorker who has yet to explore all your city has to offer, or you’re planning a visit soon, you’ll want to be sure to check these off your to-do list.

Silent Disco

In case you didn’t know, a silent disco is, in fact, a thing. So, what is a silent disco? It’s hundreds of people gathered together, wearing wireless headphones and dancing to the beat of their own drum in the styles of different music. It’s an incredible experience. People from every end of the spectrum, whether it’s age, race, or musical preference, come together in unity to dance and sing together, free of judgment.

Buy Produce on a Rooftop Farm

When you think of the concrete jungle that is NYC, no way does farming spring to mind. But you’d surprised to know that the city is actually home to a handful of fully functioning rooftop farms. There’s Brooklyn Grange in Long Island City and the Brooklyn Navy Yard, to name a few. What’s better that while you’re picking up fresh produce, you get sweeping skyline views to appreciate at the same time.

Online NY Sports Betting

New Yorkers are known for going big or going home. That’s what makes the New York sports betting scene unique in and of itself. While the online gambling situation is pretty spotty (regulations vary from state-to-state), New York is one of the few states that give US players access to some amazing betting sites, free of worry. When in New York, check out some of these New York sports betting sites so you can truly say you’ve played like a New Yorker.

Sample Smorgasburg

The largest weekly open-air food market in the United States, Smorgasburg is a major event held every Saturday from April-October. It’s located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, on in Prospect Park on Sundays. If you’re a foodie who loves to explore your taste buds with friends, this is a cool spot to be. Hundreds of vendors set up shop offering tasty food, delicious desserts, hearty craft beers, quirky crafts and more. It’s also a great place to do some people watching.

Karaoke in K-Town

Manhattan’s Koreatown is full of Seoul, no pun intended. This vertical, vibrant neighborhood can stay busy 24 hours a day, offering great food and plenty of things to do. In the city that never sleeps, the nightlife in K-Town is what really lights up. It hands down offers the best karaoke bars in all of NYC (Gagopa is a good choice). You’ll want to reserve a spot early though, as they fill up fast.

Sunday Brunch at Sylvia’s

How does Sunday morning, eating delicious fried chicken and waffles while listening to a live gospel music performance sound? Too good to be true, right? Wrong. At Sylvia’s, this is exactly the type of Sunday Brunch in store for you. Sylvia’s is tucked discreetly away in a workaday shop row on Lenox Avenue and takes credit as Harlem’s most famous soul food address. They open at 11 am, so make your reservations ahead of time.

Eat Pizza All Day Long

With New York City being one of the most diverse cities in the world, we hope you didn’t think they wouldn’t have a variety of different pizza pies to offer as well. From classic coal oven, bar pies, deep dish, Detroit style, Sicilian New York Slice, vegan, 99-cent slices, grandma slices, the options are endless. You could spend a whole day trying out different slices, just to find your favorite.

Find Your Favorite Film Locations

Visiting New York City for the first time is an interesting experience because it feels oddly familiar. Why? From all of the movies and TV shows that have been filmed in NYC, you feel like you’ve already been there before. While you’re there, you might as well see where some of your favorite shows were actually filmed. You can do this on a When Harry Met Seinfeld bus tour, where you’ll find out where Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Moonstruck, Friends, Almost Famous and other classics were shot.

See the Cherry Blossoms

You know Spring has arrived once the cherry blossoms welcome New Yorkers out of a dreary winter. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden famously celebrates the arrival of cherry blossom season with a month-long celebration in April (known as Hanami in Japanese). The Garden puts on a popular weekend-long Cherry Blossom Festival that includes over sixty events and performances.
