3 Useful Tips to Help Care for Your Gaming PC

It’s not all fun and games when it comes to your gaming PC. If you want to continue enjoying it, you have to clean and provide regular maintenance just like you would with any other machine learning. It doesn’t take much to keep your computer or a gaming laptop in great shape. Some computer shops like Allied gaming computer store will give some tips on how to take care of your devices.

If you’re new to owning a legit gaming rig or looking to upgrade a few components or want to build one, first consider your needs and your budget. Don’t worry; a decent build with medium-range specs is more affordable now than it was five years ago because of how fast-paced new tech is being churned out. If you like HP Laptops then you can appreciate what they have to offer at a reasonable price for a good gaming PC. With that said, having your first gaming PC will be a breeze for the first few months until it’s time for you to clean it.

You need to be careful, though. The CPU is considered as the brain of the entire system. As such, its inner components should be treated carefully. If you don’t know how to care for your machine, read on below to get useful tips.

Get Rid of Dust Bunnies

Like any other thing, your PC is going to accumulate dust and dirt over time. The CPU uses vents to keep it cool, and while they keep the hot air out, dust can come in. If you don’t clean it up, the grime will cling to the components and will restrict airflow. This will lead to the computer overcompensating, which makes it heat faster.

Heat is the number one enemy of the computer. You probably saved up a good chunk of your money to buy a decent one, and you don’t want to waste that by being too lazy to clean. The dirt buildup won’t happen overnight, but it’s better to clean your computer regularly so you don’t impede any of its functions in any way.

When you’re thinking of cleaning your CPU, remember to take precautions like turning off the unit completely before opening the case. Apart from avoiding being electrocuted, you may want to clean the machine in a well-ventilated area so you avoid inhaling the dust and dirt. You may also simply get yourself a respirator or face mask to avoid that.

For bigger spaces like the sides of the panels, it is wise to use a lint-free cloth. For delicate components, you can use a can of compressed air or an electric PC duster. Static damage is something you should avoid as well, and you may read about it here.

While it’s important to take care of the CPU, you should take care of the peripherals also. A microfiber rag and a multisurface cleaner can take care of parts that have easy-to-clean surfaces, like the best 24 inch monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Never use a spray cleaning solution on these parts directly as it can damage them.

You may notice some crumbs lodged between the keys of your keyboard. You can get rid of them by turning the keyboard upside down and gently tapping it until the particles come out. A long-term solution to preventing this from happening in the future is to avoid eating at your station to keep away ants and morsels of food.

Download and Install Software Updates

There’s a reason updates are crucial. They keep your software updated and secure, especially from malware that may seek to breach your computer system and potentially get access to personal information and other sensitive data. Schedule your computer to download regular software updates so that the patches for known issues like bugs and glitches get fixed as well.

Install Antivirus Software

It should be a standard for all computers to have antivirus software, but if you don’t have one yet, go download one and protect your machine. This software is important in catching dangerous malware, which can cause a lot of problems to your PC in terms of performance and connecting to networks. A free version of an antivirus software offers the most basic features, while a paid version offers advanced and even customized internet security.

How Often Should You Maintain Your Gaming PC?

It depends on where you live and how often you use your computer. Wiping down the exteriors should be done as often as weekly. If you live in an area where there is a lot of smoke and dust, then you should do light dustings quarterly. Deep cleaning can be done twice a year or every six months, and you should prioritize it to avoid overheating and other issues in the future.
