This episode of Enterprise Radio is in association with the Artificial Intelligence Channel.
Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Joe Ochal discuss the following:
- Most people don’t associate artificial intelligence with chimney inspections. What inspired you to start integrating AI into Chimney Scientists’ operations, and what problems were you trying to solve?
- Can you walk us through how AI helps identify chimney defects, safety risks, or code violations that might otherwise be missed during a traditional inspection?
- The home services industry has historically been slow to adopt new technology. Have you faced any challenges implementing AI into your own chimney business?
- You also use AI to provide homeowners with safety recommendations. How does that process work, and how has it changed the home experience for families?
- Many business leaders are wondering where AI creates real value versus where it’s simply hype. Based on your experience, what are the most practical and impactful ways AI can improve home maintenance and safety today?
- Looking ahead, how do you see emerging technologies like AI transforming chimney care and home safety over the next five to ten years?
Joe Ochal is the founder and CEO of The Chimney Scientists, one of the largest and fastest-growing residential chimney service companies in the United States. An entrepreneur since the age of 16, Joe has built and operated multiple businesses across industries, including aquariums for hotels, restaurants, and medical offices, before finding his true calling in the chimney industry. While earning his undergraduate degree in Economics and later a graduate degree in Clinical Microbiology from Thomas Jefferson University, Joe began cleaning chimneys and quickly recognized a significant gap in the market: homeowners often lacked access to proactive, professional chimney care until costly problems emerged.
Combining his scientific training with an entrepreneurial mindset, Joe founded The Chimney Scientists to bring a more data-driven, diagnostic approach to chimney inspection, repair, and maintenance. Under his leadership, the company has grown into one of the nation’s leading residential chimney service providers, serving thousands of homeowners across Pennsylvania while maintaining consistent year-over-year growth. Joe is passionate about raising standards within the industry, using science, education, and systems-based thinking to help homeowners improve safety, prevent costly repairs, and protect their homes.
Joe is also the founder of Joe Knows Trades, an online media platform and educational community for blue-collar business owners — specifically those in the trades who are looking to scale, lead, and build something that lasts. Through the platform, Joe shares the operational frameworks, leadership philosophy, and hard-learned lessons that took The Chimney Scientists from a side hustle to a nationally recognized company.
