Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Roberta Greenspan discuss the following:
- For those unaware of the concierge model of care, or personalized care, please give us a brief explanation of it.
- What are the greatest benefits of switching to a physician that practices this model for a patient?
- Has the Affordable Care Act directly or indirectly affected concierge medicine?
- What are some of the most common misconceptions you hear about concierge care? Both from physicians that have not transitioned and from potential patients.
- A recent study conducted by Jackson Healthcare shared that 42% of physicians are dissatisfied. The top drivers of this dissatisfaction are: decreasing autonomy, low reimbursement and administrative hassles. Does this sound familiar? And how do you think this feeling translates into patient care?
Specialdocs Consultants, Inc. founder, Roberta Greenspan, is a seasoned health care executive and visionary with more than 30 years of professional health care experience in both the hospital and private practice setting. Throughout her career, Roberta has consistently developed and maintained a reputation for trust, respect and discretion when dealing with physicians and ancillary staff.
As the Physician Administrator for Evanston Northwestern Healthcare (now NorthShore University HealthSystem Highland Park Hospital) for more than ten years, Roberta was extensively involved in physician relations, program implementation and organization, operations improvement and delivery of quality patient-focused services. Roberta served as both physician liaison and advisor, developing a unique perspective on the challenges faced by today’s doctors. Consequently, her understanding of imposed health care constraints and the resulting impact on physician practices has been a very personal experience.
In 2002, Roberta left an increasingly impersonal and corporate hospital environment to launch Specialdocs Consultants, Inc. a boutique medical practice consulting firm dedicated to successfully transitioning traditional medical practices to individually-designed concierge medicine or personalized care models. Greenspan founded and developed Specialdocs with the concept of bringing back patient-focused, high quality medical care to frustrated physicians and their equally frustrated patients.
During the past 12 years, Specialdocs has provided almost 150 physicians in 30 states across the United States with consulting, management and medical practice design services, along with accounting, legal, and marketing support both during their transition to a concierge medicine practice as well as ongoing post-transition maintenance.
A leading authority on concierge medicine, Roberta has been quoted in numerous national publications, and has appeared on Chicago television and radio as well as nationally on CNN and CNNFN discussing today’s health care crisis and new medical practice solutions. She has authored articles on the topic of concierge medicine for well-known industry publications including Physicians Practice, Medical Economics and The Business Journal for Physicians. Roberta was a member of the Board of Directors of The Society for Innovation Medical Practice Design (SIMPD), formerly known as the American Society of Concierge Physician, from 2005 – 2007. Currently, she is on the Steering Committee of the American College of Private Physicians and is a member of the National Society of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants, (NSCHBC).
