My name is Michael Austin Jacobs and I am a 20-year-old student entrepreneur. Over the past few years I have been on a journey to create value in people’s lives through the ideas I have. In this time, I’ve learned a lot about myself and about what it takes to become an entrepreneur and I’d like to share a quick interpretation of what it means to be an entrepreneur.
I am in my third year of college from the Eller College of Management, but I will be graduating in May of 2013. Over the past few years, I have been following my entrepreneurial passion, even through all the struggles. My first company, a website tech company, wasn’t successful, but I pushed on and worked on creating a second company the next year. After my second company failed, I pushed through my negative mindset, learned from my mistakes, and said, “Lets do this again.”
I have been working on my current startup, SociaLink, for about 6 months now. While in India this past summer on a study abroad program with my business school, I saw a need to simplify networking. I was attending multiple networking and social events and was meeting different CEOs and executives at these events. I had a lot of difficulty connecting with all these people I was meeting because of the cultural differences (especially the difficult spelling of their names). My entrepreneurial creative mind began flowing and I got to work on building an idea. While on a spiritual meditation retreat in the mountains of India, the original iPhone application idea, SociaLink, came to me. I returned to Bangalore where I interviewed multiple development companies and hired a team based in Bangalore. I project managed the development team from Tucson, Arizona after I returned back to the U.S. I put together a team of successful entrepreneurs and we have created a revolutionary iOS app that will change networking forever. My passion for this idea has led me this far and I believe we will change the way people connect and network on social media.
The application our startup has created, SociaLink, will allow users to friend or follow acquaintances on a variety of social networking sites instantly through Bluetooth for FREE. Now you will never lose a contact due to forgetting or misspelling a name or have to spend excess time searching through a list of people with the same name. Whenever you meet someone with the app, with a simple handshake and the click of a button, you can be connected on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr with anyone you meet. If someone you meet doesn’t have SociaLink, don’t waste time waiting for someone to download the app. Instantly share your social media profile links as well as a link to download SociaLink by using the ‘Email’ feature.
Michael is also a young author who recently released his first eBook titled, “Make Your Idea an App Store App – 8 Secrets Behind Creating a Successful Mobile App.” The eBook shares Michael’s insights on how to come up with a great app idea, find and manage a development team, and launch your app on the App Store.
