Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG): Addressing Academic Uncertainties in 2022, Supporting Young People Across the Country of Great Promise

Ken Smith, the President of Jobs for America’s Graduates, a nonprofit that works in the classroom with young adults of great promise across the country to help them succeed, not just in graduating from high school but to do so well-prepared to enter both secondary education and/or the workforce joins Enterprise Radio.

Listen to host Eric Dye & guest Ken Smith discuss the following:

  1. What is it that you believe JAG and its staff undertook differently to help your students achieve a 97% graduation rate (a marked increase when contrasted with national averages) at a time when students and families were struggling with COVID-19 and the switch to remote learning?
  2. How does JAG combine workforce training with education to make sure its students graduate well-prepared to enter both secondary education as well as the job market?
  3. What do you think schools should take or learn from the JAG model? Can the model be replicated State to State?
  4. How does JAG record and utilize its data, and how is the collection of data vital to your organization and others in the nonprofit sector?
  5. What are the challenges which JAG faces in 2022 and how are you planning to address those challenges?
  6. I had heard whispers of a new Strategic Plan entitled, ‘Youth Opportunity and Outcomes’. What is this and why is it important?

Ken Smith serves as President and CEO of Jobs for America’s Graduates, Inc. (JAG), the nation’s largest, most consistently applied model of high school retention and school-to-career transition for high-risk young people of great promise.

In 1979, Mr. Smith worked with Governor Pete du Pont of Delaware on the design of the first statewide test of the JAG Model and has served as President and CEO since its inception. JAG currently serves over 75,000 young people annually, in more than 1,450 high schools, middle schools, and out-of-school programs in 39 states. Over 1.4 million youth have been connected to JAG throughout its 40-year history.
