The hiring process has vastly changed in the 2000s.  Gone are the days of putting out a sign or printing an ad in the newspaper.  There are several locations that you can find employees and advertise your job listings online.  Start to be creative with this and understand that your candidates are trying to find you as much as you are trying to find them.  Think of where your best candidates may be hanging out on social media as well.

The first location would be just that, social media.  Different age groups, for the most part, have different favorites.  If you are a recruiting agency, you may want to build your own social media as well.  This can be Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest and Twitter to name a few. Engaging and interacting with these pages should very valuable to both you and your followers.  Provide value to your followers, maybe tips on resume writing or what to wear when interviews. Things that can help them with their job searches. And, there are even places to post jobs on some, use them!

Job Boards

Job boards are another great place to post the opening.  This will flood you with options but you can also filter through who comes your way to see if they may fit other positions you see opening up in the near future.  Maybe the candidate is not qualified for the job that is looking for but is qualified for other areas of the company. This is where you can put them into your organized database for a later date.  There are many job boards out there, and all of them have different fees and structure, so be sure to take some time to get to know them. For example, Recruit Military, offers a job board made up solely of veterans.

Career Sites

Be sure to post each and every job you have open on career sites as well.  Your company’s help-wanted board should be easy to navigate and helpful for those that are interested in working with you.  You should be very clear as to what the job is and what requirements you have to save yourself from unqualified candidates.

Freelancing Sites

There are countless freelancers that sometimes are better at what they do than to directly hire someone. These are also known as economy sharing.  Basically they are sites that have on-demand jobs, peer to peer car sharing and other things. Freelancer sites are great to find people to complete tasks such as sifting through resumes or clearing your database of old clients.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a social media for professionals.  This is a little different than the regular social media category as people are usually much more professional and aren’t sharing cat memes and such.  There is a place to post job openings on LinkedIn and search by people’s qualifications as well. This is a place that you can find qualified professionals.

Remember, go where your level of client would be at.  If they are a professional LinkedIn if you are looking for retail help, probably social media.  But, if you have tasks that may be completed by a freelancer, sometimes that is the better option as you are not stuck with them, should you not like their work.
