Johannes Larson is a Swede self-taught online marketing entrepreneur who started educating himself at the age of 15. He realized pretty early in life that the traditional route wasn’t something he was going to do.  After a lot of experiments, trial and error, and countless hours in front of the computer screen he managed to build financer.com a financial comparison company which he successfully operates completely remotely.

Has Financer.com been affected by COVID-19?

Yes, short-term financer.com has been affected by the lockdown. We have seen a significant but temporary decrease in traffic which has recovered pretty fast. The revenue also decreased and some of our partners stopped their campaigns or they have paused them due to the uncertain situation.

On the other hand, some markets have not been affected that much and we are already witnessing drastic improvements that are predicting recovery and even increase in our long-term results. This is a new situation for us too so we are doing our best to stay on top of it, luckily enough due to our remote culture, our operations have kept going even when everything else around stopped.

What inspired you to create Financer.com?

I saw a gap in the financial comparison market and wanted to create a better service than the competitors. Therefore, I decided to focus my energy on one project and make it really good, so I created financer.com, a comparison website for financial services such as loans, credit cards, savings accounts, and more to help people make better financial decisions.

Ironically, I only began to see results in my business when I shifted my focus from trying to make money to creating value by providing people with a useful service.

How Financer.com is different from the other comparison sites? 

At Financer.com, we do things differently. We aren’t just a comparison company. Our vision is to provide the most useful tools to help our community improve their personal finance. We achieve this goal by creating smart and unique tools to help people with their personal economy, and we plan to create even more.

How did you manage to multiply your revenue by 10x for 2 years in a row? 

After a lot of trial and error, I managed to create a system where the team gets a fair share of their markets. As a result, the individuals compared to regular employees grow faster because this type of system motivates the team to achieve more for the company and at the same time to achieve more for themselves. 

It won’t be possible to grow the revenue without our growth mindset. We always create win-win situations both with our partners, team members, and users. To be successful firstly you have to care about the other people and then to care about revenue.   

That’s how you multiply your revenue by 10x for 2 years in a row!

What are the main advantages and disadvantages of working remotely?

I feel that there are dozens of opportunities if you work remotely and travel at the same time. Also, freedom is one of the main factors that I choose to work remotely. You can work anytime you want from wherever you want! 

On the other hand, when you are running a business and trying to build culture it’s more difficult to do it due to the social aspect. To balance this, we organize work retreats and team meetups regularly. The lack of deep friendships is another major disadvantage especially when you are traveling from one country to another. 

Entrepreneurship is tough-how did you stay motivated?

As I mentioned above, I love freedom. I never wanted to work a 9-5 job therefore I stepped my toes into the entrepreneurship waters at a very young age. Also, I enjoy building things in such a way that it makes us able to focus on what’s important so that we can grow on the right things. I like growth and preferably slow. 

I can’t find a better way to achieve those than being an entrepreneur! 

If someone lacks motivation, he might be in the “wrong” game or mindset. It is very important to know yourself and know why you want to accomplish what you set up to accomplish. Sometimes, reading interviews or listening to people who have already walked the path and accomplished what you want to accomplish, helps to get you back on track.
