Captain Dan Willis, a 25 year Police Veteran that is a former homicide investigator, SWAT commander and author “Bulletproof Spirit: The First Responder’s Essential Resource for Protecting and Healing Mind and Heart” joins Enterprise Radio.
Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Captain Dan Willis discuss the following:
- What inspired you to write BULLETPROOF SPIRIT? How might the individual (or families ) recognize that a first responder might be in distress?
- Why are first responders susceptible to depression and Post Traumatic Syndrome Disorder?
- What are the warning signs families should look for that a first responder is in danger?
- What are some important things a first responder can do to counteract the significant negative effects of the job?
- Why is it vital that first responder agencies offer an employee wellness program?
- What are the benefits of creating an informed network – and how can doing so create safer communities?
Conclusion: The principles of emotional survival and proactive wellness strategies described in “Bulletproof Spirit” are just as useful and meaningful not only for first responders and their families, but for any person who suffers from debilitating stress or past trauma. Acute stress and trauma inflicts similar pain and damage to one’s spirit whether it is the result of being a violent crime victim, one who has suffered tragedy or loss in their lives, or those who sacrifice a part of themselves to protect and give life to others. It is those survival and healing methods to protect, heal, and nurture the spirit that can renew hope, inspire, sustain life, and create wellness.
