Paul Ingram who is the Kravis Professor of Business at the Columbia Business School joins Enterprise Radio. Ingram is also the author of What Do You Really Stand For?: The One Question That Will Transform Your Work and Life makes the case that your core values are the most overlooked driver of success, fulfillment, and leadership.
Listen to interview with host Eric Dye & guest Paul Ingram discuss the following:
- In the opening lines of the book, you share Captain Matt Feely’s experience during the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, while he was serving in the US Navy’s Seventh Fleet. He was faced with an extremely challenging decision: whether to provide life-saving relief that would put him in legal peril. Can you share how his values helped him decide what to do?
- Can you share a bit about your background and why you have focused your teaching and research on values?
- In your book, WHAT DO YOU REALLY STAND FOR?, you have a remarkable exercise that uses triads to help identify our top values. Can you share how anyone can use this approach?
- You then discuss how someone can put their top values from their triads into a values structure. How can we discover which of our top values is our chief executive value (CEV)?
- In the book, you share the example of a student, Akansha, and how she chose between three jobs – two possibilities at her current company, and one outside her company. How did she use values scoring to make that decision?Â
