Movie nights used to be pricy before streaming; putting in 15 bucks to watch one movie was the standard. Until Netflix came along, you could choose between thousands of movies, series, and documentaries for less than $10 a month. This is all about to change as we are witnessing the death of low-cost streaming.
This service brought in millions of subscribers the ability to watch whatever you wanted on different devices. To be able to watch all your favorite series, as well as every single season, was a revolution in the entertainment industry. Everyone loved the concept and continued to be drawn into it.
Unfortunately, this is soon going to be a distant memory. Amazon Prime is currently competing with Netflix. They certainly have the budget to enter the market and can easily outspend every other streaming service. They are bringing in more and more content every day and have a couple of award-winning exclusive originals that have intrigued their users. To show the extent of effort they are putting into their service, they set to premiere lord of the rings in 2022, and this project cost them $465 million just for the first season. This move is guaranteed to bring Ringers to subscribe to get the opportunity to watch their favorite show.
Amazon is not the only service taking a piece of the pie. Disney+ set up their exclusive streaming service, taking back all the movies and shows they own from other streaming services. So everything from Marvel, Pixar, star wars, ABC shows, and 20th Century Fox will now only be available on their platform and completely blocked from everywhere else. So anytime you want to watch one of your favorite productions owned by Disney, you need a subscription.
Apple also launched their Apple TV+ streaming service back in 2019, and they estimate them gaining about 40 million subscribers and plan to spend an extra $500 million on marketing to bring more people into their platforms.
If you think this is all whats out there, then you are mistaken. NBCUniversal is pulling all their shows from Netflix to build their own service. A fan’s favorite “Friends” owned by WarnerMedia will be pulled out of Netflix to create their own streaming service and anything based on the DC comics. BBC and ITV created their own service BritBox and are monopolizing their greatest hits. Hulu is thriving off the Handmaid’s Tale bringing them a steady fan base. These are only the tip of the iceberg as lesser-known services are emerging like QUIBI and Snackable.
An extra subscription won’t break the bank, but to get all subscriptions out there to watch everything you want will, so the ability to watch all you want is deemed to get very expensive. This sucks as the ability to watch TV will be for the elite. They are forcing people to pay for every single service separately, and the fan base is splitting. This means that these close-to-nothing subscriptions we used to pay for will rise just to keep up with demand.
Feeling the pressure, for all of us on a budget, there might be a way around it. According to tech experts at serveral.com, there is another free well-known platform to catch your favorite movies; you could also send in requests of what you would like to see on there. Cineb could be what you are looking for.Â
