Podcasts are quickly becoming the most popular form of entertainment for many of us – we’re able to listen on the go and catch up with our favourite personalities from across the world. Sports podcasts have quickly risen to the top of the list as favourites as fans catch up on sporting news across the world or tuning in to hear the opinions of their favourite sports personalities, and with more big names creating their own podcast there are a huge number to choose from – but which are the best sports podcasts?
Below the Belt – Hosted by former MMA fighter turned comedian Brendan Schaub, this podcast brings a mix of comedy and rawness to the growing world of mixed martial arts. By bringing on big names in the sports as regular guests and hosting interviews, this podcast can be reminiscent of the Joe Rogan Experience MMA shows from which Brandan Schaub was able to gain his podcasting fame from, and with some reaching out in to the world of boxing this is certainly a good look for combat sports fans. Brendan Schaub does also host a second podcast, The Fighter and The Kid with actor Bryan Callen, which follows a similar formula by holding a comedy take on different goings on.
WVU Mountaineers – Sporting fans in West Virginia can often be found turning to the West Virginia University Mountaineers podcast, and with recent announcements suggesting that we could see some college football such as the big ten returning- with online sports betting being made legal in West Virginia in 2018 and the return of sporting events on the horizon, this is a great podcast to keep you up to date with college sports news and scores.
The Bill Simmons Podcast – This is the most downloaded sports podcast of all time and hosts a crew of rotating celebrities, athletes, and big names in media alongside a few mainstays in the cast who keep the podcast lively. The show is hosted three times per week so there’s always plenty of listening hours to combine with your other favourite sports podcasts, and covering a wide range of sporting events across the world.
The Joe Rogan Experience – Probably the most well-known podcast in the world, Joe Rogan hosts a wide variety of guests from movie stars to academic scientists – whilst never really pushing too much focus on specific sporting events outside of his MMA shows, the huge number of sports stars that have appeared on his podcast have given a unique insight into certain sports scenes and what things are like behind the scenes – combining a lot of fact with comedy, there’s a lot of diversity in what the show can offer listeners too.
As with most others, many of these podcasts are appealing to different audiences as both audio and video options are available for listening or viewing – fans can also keep an eye out for the growing number of sports personalities who are also starting to host their own podcasts for the specific sport, offering yet more diversity to the podcast world.
