Playing Roulette: Finding The Right Book

There is a surplus of books that talk about roulette strategy. Not all of these books are worth the money that is being asked, but that doesn’t mean there are golden gems out there. Playing roulette takes a system and it’s something that you have to learn on how to do on your own. Most of these books help you develop knowledge and enjoyment of the game. Other books specifically dive into what is going around the tables. If you want to win big, you need to understand the game.

The best book offers sound advice on how to play roulette, explains the slang of the game, and teaches you how to employ money management techniques. That begs the question: What is the best book out there?

What Is Roulette?

Roulette features a different dynamic compared to those who play the free slots. Roulette is a casino game that features a little wheel. In the game, players may choose to place bets on a single number, groupings of numbers, the colors red or black, whether the number is odd or even, or if the numbers are high (19-36) or low (1-18). To determine the winning number, a croupier (person who manages the wheel) spins a ball in the opposite direction around the circular track on the outer edge of the wheel. Metal vs. rock, the ball eventually loses momentum, passes through the deflectors, and falls onto the wheel and into one of the numbers.

If you are playing French/European style, the ball will fall into one of 37 numbers. If you are playing American style, the ball will fall into one of 38 numbers. The winnings are then paid to anyone who made a successful bet. While this may all seem like it is lucky, there are strategies you must familiarize yourself with.

The Books To Read

Just like any poker game, this casino game requires knowledge as well. You can go as far back as 1968 to read Norman Squire’s How to Win Roulette. While this may seem like a classic, much of the text circles back to current playing methods. It was one of the first books to discuss progressive betting systems and how to use the types of strategies. It also developed several roulette tips and philosophies on how to play the game.

Catalin Barboianu’s Roulette Odds and Profits: The Mathematics of Complex Bets takes a different approach. Based on the title, you can infer that this book dives into the mathematical principles and probability odds. This outlines how you can minimize your risk at the table and maximize the bets and changes you make during the game. It may not be the “perfect method,” but it is a pretty in-depth read.

Each is their own when it comes to reading material, but if you have never played roulette before, it would be wise to not go in with an empty brain. This game can take away a lot of your money fast if you don’t know what you are doing. Find a book that talks about the basics, so the next time you play roulette, you will be prepared.
