Chanda McFarland, the driving force behind Inflatable Party Magic. Before embarking on my entrepreneurial journey, I dedicated 12 years to a fulfilling career as a Human Resource Director at a MHMR (Mental Health and Mental Retardation) facility.Balancing a demanding job and a bustling household with four children, the extensive travel my role required began to weigh heavily on me.
Aspirations to become an attorney emerged; However, the prospect of forgoing my stable income for law school was a little overwhelming. This dilemma led to the inception of Inflatable Party Magic, initially conceived as a supplemental source of income to support my family and finance my legal studies. It was also something that I was very good at. With 4 children, I was always planning parties and loved doing large parties for my kids.
What started as a weekend venture quickly blossomed, compelling me to postpone the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) thrice due to the business’s unexpected surge. 22 years ago, a close friend and I laid the groundwork for Inflatable Party Magic with just three inflatables. The business expanded rapidly, and by the year’s end, we had 20. My friend eventually stepped away, making room for my father to join the venture. We collaborated until his retirement about 6 years ago, at which point my son stepped in to co-manage the business.
Today, Inflatable Party Magic boasts an impressive inventory exceeding 150 inflatables, alongside a huge party rental inventory including concession machines, dunk tanks, rocl climbing walls, mechanical bulls, euro bungee trampolines, bumper cars, tables, chairs, tents, party games, Create A Bear, Photo Booth, and more. The growth and success of the business have far exceeded my initial expectations. Now over 20 years into this journey, it has become another extension of my family just the customers we have grown to know and love.
This journey underscores the power of hard work, dedication, and resilience. I’ve learned the value of community and support within the industry, making the business more enjoyable and rewarding than when I navigated its challenges alone. My story is a testament to the fact that with determination and perseverance, anything is possible.
