Matt Burk is the founder and CEO of Fairway America and the Chief Investment Officer of Fairway America Funds VI and VII. After graduating from the University of California, Davis in 1986 with a BA in Economics, Matt began his early career working for banks, thrifts, and finance companies. In 1992, he founded Fairway Financial Services, Inc., predecessor to Fairway Commercial Mortgage and Fairway America and led the company’s successful ascent as one of the leading private money lenders and mortgage pool managers in the Pacific NW. Matt is widely recognized as one of the most respected and credible operators in the small balance real estate fund industry.
Matt has been the catalyst and leading force in the growth of Fairway from a small mortgage broker to a firm that has created and managed multiple successful 506 Regulation D mortgage pool funds and other private lending investment vehicles totaling in the hundreds of millions. Matt’s expertise includes mortgage pool fund asset acquisition, management and disposition, real estate valuation, deal underwriting, fund creation and growth, capital raising through high net worth individuals and wealth managers, and debt procurement and management for use in investment funds and real estate based asset origination, acquisition, and management.
Matt is a sought after expert in the field of mortgage pool and other real estate asset based funds. He writes and speaks regularly on the topic and provides advice, guidance, and expertise to private lenders and fund managers around the United States in the creation, structure and operation, as well as strategic planning for capital raising, financial modeling, and administration of proprietary funds. He provides mentoring and advisory board services to new and emerging managers in the real estate asset based fund space around the United States and is widely considered the leading authority in the field.
Over the past 20 years, Matt has worked extensively with hundreds of bankers, brokers, borrowers, investors, attorneys, appraisers, fund managers, and entrepreneurs. He is passionate about entrepreneurship and has been actively involved in Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO), the world’s most influential community of entrepreneurs, for the last 12+ years. He served on the board of the Portland Oregon chapter for 6 years including as its President in 2006-07. He was also EO’s Western US Area Director from 2008-09 and has been a leading mentor for EO’s Accelerator program, which fosters personal and business development and growth for up-and-coming entrepreneurs.
