Nicola Bond, Founder and CEO of Merchmix, the AI-powered retail operating platform that connects merchandise planning, product development, buying, pricing, allocation, replenishment and retail execution in one system, helping retailers decide what to buy, where to put it and when to act joins Enterprise Radio.
Listen to host Eric Dye & guest Nicola Bond discuss the following:
- Almost every business you speak to says the same thing: our business is unique, no system could work the way we work, so we run it in spreadsheets. You have argued that getting off spreadsheets is a cultural change more than a technology one. What do you mean by that, and how should a leader tell which parts of their process are a competitive edge and which are just inherited habit?
- You spent 20 years inside some of the world’s biggest retailers before you built any technology. When a business gets those decisions wrong, where does the money actually go? Most leaders underestimate it.
- You’ve just said the real gap is speed to act, not data. When it comes to AI, speed to act can mean letting the system act on recommendations, not just report them. Where do you draw the line on what an AI should be trusted to decide on its own, versus where a person needs to stay in control? And how do you bring a team that’s used to owning every decision along with that?
- When a business finally decides to move, the assumption is usually that it will be a two-year project that disrupts everything. What does the transition actually involve, and what can a team realistically do in the first ninety days?
- You talk about building a season in a week, work that used to take months. If planning cycles compress that far, what happens to the job, and what should people be learning now?
Nicola Bond is the Co-Founder and CEO of the retail inventory operating platform Merchmix, which empowers retail teams from HQ to stores with data-driven AI planning, trading, and replenishment intelligence.
Nicola brings 20 years of expertise across the retail and technology sectors to the business. Her career is defined by senior leadership roles in buying, merchandising, and product strategy for some of the world’s most recognisable retail brands including M&S, where Nicola led the launch and scaling of Marks & Spencer’s International Division, and ASOS.com, where she held pivotal senior buying roles for the online fashion giant.
Previously, Nicola also held senior buying and ‘Head of Product’ positions at Debenhams, Best & Less, and SABA.
Nicola’s deep operational experience directly anchors Merchmix’s vision and design. Having observed recurring challenges – such as stock management inefficiencies and disconnected supplier alignment – across every region and organisation she worked in, she co-founded Merchmix to solve these specific pain points.
She noted that launching international markets taught her that “every customer base in each country behaves differently, and those nuances are expensive to get wrong”. She positions Merchmix as the solution to this complexity, describing the platform as “the assistant every retailer wishes they had – one who never sleeps, knows the data inside-out, and helps you make the right call”.
