Journalist, publicist, author, and entrepreneur Hope Katz Gibbs started her career as a newspaper and magazine reporter after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. Through 1991, she worked at the Dominion Post, The Miami Herald, and as an editor at New Miami magazine, when she moved to Washington DC to study for her master’s degree in educational leadership at The George Washington University.

She launched her freelance writing business in 1993, and in the years since Hope’s articles have appeared in The Washington Post, USA Today, The Miami Herald, dozens of association, business, education and general interest magazines, and many alumni publications including her own alma maters.

Hope has won several awards for feature and column writing, including top honors from the Florida Magazine Association, and the National School Public Relations Association. She has been listed in Who’s Who in Media & Communications since 1989, and Who’s Who of American Women since 1993.

Hope got into the PR business 2001, when she founded Great Handmade Gifts, an online art and craft shop that represented artists, artisans, and authors from around the world. She also began working as the director of communications for the City of Fairfax Schools, and in 2005 added another client to her list, the futurist think tank Social Technologies.

In 2008, she incorporated The Inkandescent Group, LLC, and since then has helped increase the visibility and credibility of more than 75 entrepreneurs, educators, authors, and small business owners through her PR firm, Inkandescent Public Relations, a PR, media relations, marketing, web development, graphic design, and publishing company based in Arlington, Virginia.

Along with her award-winning team, which is made up entirely of journalists, Hope creates high-end websites, marketing materials, press releases, print and e-newsletters, ads, executive summaries and white papers — and works closely with reporters to help get her clients In the News. Hope also plans and organizes events, ghostwrites books for corporate executives, and maintains her clients’ websites so they are up-to-date and provide an accurate, impressive image.

“While we offer a lot of services at Inkandescent PR, the key to our success is that everything we do accomplishes one mission: To promote, educate, and inspire entrepreneurs,” Hope says.
