COVID-19 and the iGaming Industry, How One Swedish Tech Company Is Learning to Thrive

Swedish software company Leadstar Media, which is active in the global iGaming affiliate industry, was recently named Sweden’s 6th fastest growing tech company in Deloitte’s Sweden Technology Fast 50 list, despite the challenges many other businesses faced during the coronavirus pandemic.

Every year, Deloitte, the multinational professional services network, publishes a list of Sweden’s fastest-growing technology companies. The list is based on increases in net sales over the past four years.

This recognition marks Stockholm-based Leadstar Media’s first appearance on the renowned list after the company increased sales by 1710 per cent.

Leadstar Media’s success comes on the back of the company’s recent internal and external growth, despite the challenges brought on by the global Covis-19 pandemic.

On how the company approached the pandemic, CEO Eskil Kvarnström said, 

“We set out on a mission to work even harder and really seize the opportunity that presented itself, rather than slowing down. It was definitely a risk in doing so, but looking back the business has reached great heights in 2020 thanks to the work we collectively put in at the beginning of the year.”

In 2020, the affiliate marketing company launched nine new products and expanded its workforce by nearly 50%, adding 14 new employees for a staff of 35+.

Of the new products launched in 2020, two come from the company’s MyBettingSites.com brand which is a sports betting comparison website now active in 9 different geographies including the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and several other African nations.

Additional products that Leadtsar Media attributes to its 2020 success include their sports betting comparison websites Bookiesbonuses.com in the UK, bookmakerbonus.it in Italy and Sitedeapostas.com in Brasil, as well as their Swedish Casino product, Casinodeaen.se.

According to Kvarnström, Leadtsar saw the global pandemic as an opportunity for Leadsdtar to not just survive, but thrive.

“The whole world has naturally gone more digital, and we’ve seen search volumes go through the roof for some keywords and markets. I specifically think of Italy, where retail betting has been and still is very big. But when the country was forced to close down a lot of people moved online instead which have had a really positive impact on our Italian sites. I truly believe that this would have happened anyway eventually, but it has been propelled by the situation as online betting became the only option available.”
