Mat Franken’s background isn’t one of entomology, biology, or any type of ‘-ology’.  Prior to Aunt Fannie’s, Mat’s career had been entirely within the world of private finance. He and his wife Jodi had built a comfortable life but as their family expanded they learned very quickly not only did their children have serious food sensitivities and negative reactions to conventional household supplies, but so did Mat himself.

As parents do, Mat and Jodi searched high and low for foods and other products that were friendlier to the family but, in the early 2000s, there just wasn’t much available in ‘natural living’. Mat began to realize, despite improvements in the sourcing, quality, and freshness of the foods we eat, the places where our foods are prepared are still cleaned and maintained with unsafe, toxic chemicals. Quite coincidently, that’s when roving gangs of fruit flies started terrorizing their town and decided to pay the Frankens a visit.

Making every effort to avoid toxic chemicals, the Frankens searched for natural solutions to get rid of their pesky problem. They discovered that home remedies weren’t effective, and products on the market just didn’t perform. So it became their personal mission to find a solution to this common household problem for their own use. 4 years later, the Frankens had finally honed a natural solution to eradicate fruit flies. FlyPunch! was born. But it didn’t stop there. After finding that many other families were also taking household matters into their own hands, Mat began to seriously consider building a brand that made simple, natural, and clean household products for families just like his. With fruit flies being such a common nuisance, FlyPunch! would be the perfect lead product.

Aunt Fannie’s, the brand and character (whose attitude and sensibilities are modeled after a favorite Franken relative), pay homage to the power of homegrown ingenuity and the resurging simplicities of eras gone by.
