Born and raised in The Bahamas, Sandy Collier’s deep love for her community has helped to guide many professional and personal decisions she’s made throughout her life and career. In 1992, when Hurricane Andrew hit South Florida, Sandy jumped at the opportunity to help those in need whose homes had been destroyed by the storm. It was during this time she met a news crew from the local FOX TV station and was bitten by the news bug. Through that friendship, Sandy landed an intern position and would eventually work her way up to an assignment editor. 8 years later she took a position at NewsRadio 610-WIOD radio as a reporter assigned to cover the Miami-Dade community.

Sandy covered many memorable events including that of Elian Gonzalez, the hanging chad issue in Palm Beach County and local news coverage during the attack on the world trade center. Her personal life would also make news when she gave birth to her 5th child in the news car. Sandy’s 6th child and only daughter was born in 2006. After that, Sandy took a couple years off to care for her growing family and would eventually move to Colorado and then onto Cincinnati, OH, where she eventually took a position as a weekend assignment editor.

In 2011, due to her husband’s failing health, Sandy moved her family back to Florida to be closer to her extended family. This time she settled in West Palm Beach where she continued her news career, landing at WPEC working her way up to Assignment Manager. After 4 years, Sandy knew it was time to spread her wings. Her husband had recently passed away and one of her children was facing a potential health crisis. Sandy’s priority was her family and the demanding schedule working in TV didn’t give her the flexibility she needed. So, she stepped away from the newsroom and embarked on a lifelong dream of starting her own PR Firm which would give her the opportunity to spend more time with her children, especially her son, who is living with autism.

Since starting Hey, Sandy! PR and Communications, Sandy has found her niche working with nonprofits and small black businesses who don’t believe PR services are within their reach. Sandy has also continued to participate in community service projects which include huge fundraisers and Publicity efforts for The Bahamas. Sandy graduated from St Thomas University with a degree in Communications.

She resides in Wellington with her family. She is known to belt out a tune! She enjoys exercising with her daughter, playing with her grandchildren and a nice glass of wine.
