7 of the quirkiest modes of transportation across the world

Let’s fact it – transportation is one of the main things that makes the world go around. From planes to buses, to trains to a milton keynes taxi to even an auto rickshaw. You name it, you’ve got it. However, apart from being an essential and valuable part of everyone’s lives across the globe, there will always be a few oddities here and there.  Even if you convince yourself of the fact that there is only a limit as to how outlandish transport can be, think again. The list below only serves to reaffirm that very fact. Here are some of the most quirkiest modes of transport :-

An underground funicular: For all those of you scratching your heads trying to figure out what it is – Basically an inclined railway with a tram that moves up and down. Located in Istanbul Turkey, this is underground not to mention also one of the oldest subways in the world. Now that really is something.

Cyclo: Located in Vietnam, this is basically a tricycle taxi with the main difference being that the passengers sit in front. Used mainly by the hoards of tourists who visit Hanoi, there are times where they have actually proven to be faster than cars on certain occasions.

Canal Taxi: Yes, believe it or not this actually does exist. Rightly called the “Venice Of The East” due to its vast and pervading network of canals all across, Bangkok, this mode of transportation still holds a very special place in the hearts of most citizens and tourists alike. Some of the canal routes go right into the heart of the city.

Chicken Bus: No that was not a typo or error that you just read. Rather it is quite the familiar sight in places like Panama and Guatemala, mainly used by the locals of the region. These vividly coloured buses are called so mainly because of the many chickens the locals tend to bring on the bus from the market.

Camel Bus: Cuba is no stranger to having a unique variety of old cars on its road and this one can be added to that list as well. Unlike the cars however, this particular bus has been a classic for many years, being a one-of-a-kind semi-truck.

Maglev Train: Talk about need for speed. This monster manages to finish a 30 km run in a mere 4 minutes reaching the mind-warping speed of 431 km/hr at times. Then again, the word maglev is short for magnetic levitation as the train itself is above and propelled by a powerful magnetic field. Located in Shanghai, this is bound to be the shortest trip to the airport ever.

Hovercraft: One would ordinarily think that speedy catamarans would have taken over, but not in all cases. Take the case of the U.K for example where one hovercraft still runs from Portsmouth all the way to the Isle Of Wight. It is officially the longest running commercial ferry.

Furthermore, if you happen to have a special fondness for travelling in particular, then you must surely look up these 7 offbeat modes of transport. As most of you would already know, travelling does tend to get a bit mundane and slack at times. Hence, the quirkier the transport, the more chances it has to actually liven things up for the passengers at hand, which ultimately makes all the difference.
