Experienced business travelers know all the hints right, they remember all the tricks, of course. There should be no real need to read on but wait a minute, what if traveling has become an old chore for you? How about if the routine has become so rehearsed you think it must be doing well because nothing is going wrong. This is a great way to look at things but it also defeats you from being able to update and succeed with the times, to take on new ideas to help you and your business mind stay active in this constantly changing climate;

  1. Updated checklist, there are so many things to keep in mind when headed overseas on business and they should not be constantly kept in mind. These items, tasks, pieces of information should be on a list somewhere in your phone or the bag you pack to remind you only when you need them. They can be as simple as putting an extra charger in your bag or even that you should drink more water, make a list that is right for you and update it, we all end up reaching our destination and realising we forgot that all important pair of warm socks.
  2. Get comfortable, seems simple right and you always do it. You arrive at your hotel and set up like it’s your office but what about setting up like it’s your home for the next couple of days? There could be something as simple as bringing your pyjamas or slippers or even your reading light that helps you slip off to sleep and rest properly after a long day of travel.
  3. Hunt for deals, experienced travellers know that loyalty gets you discounts but also hunting gets you great deals. Using sites like enjoycarhire.com to compare all the local hire cars against the big names can save you money and get you a deal that the larger ones can’t provide. Imagine you get off the plane or out of the coach station and the independent dealer that you have been hiring off is waiting for you, like a friend in a foreign land.
  4. Pleasantries will get you everywhere, these days being the big shot is not as favourable as being the consistently lovely person to deal with. If you know that upgrades could be on offer then approach them as you would a horse, with calm confidence. The deal will run smoother if you prove why you are worth it, demanding will make the horse bite back.
  5. Keep it quiet, travelling constantly will remind you that you are not the only one. The world changes all the time and buildings need to change with that. Construction is constant so indulge in noise cancelling headphones and get that much needed rest.
