5 Best Practices in Generating Referrals

In this weeks episode of Business Development Radio 4 hosted by Liz Lynch, we heard about the 5 best practices on generating referrals that would lead you to new business opportunities. One thing to note, you have to put yourself out there to find those opportunities.

1. You need to be someone who not only gets referrals but you should be giving referrals. This is a part of building relationships by having a giving attitude and not only looking out for yourself. Have a good time building relationships and let the results happen the way it was meant to be.

2. You need to simply be the best at what you do. If you are not getting referrals you need to stop and analyze your business and if you are good at it. Do you come across confident? Are you at the top of your game? Do you have a professional web presence, blog and social networking profiles? Do you appear at events well dressed? Present yourself professionally in person and online.

3. Can you be found online? This is important to get referrals. If someone found an opportunity and thought of you and wanted to get in touch with you – to get the referral you need to be out there to be found such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. You also want to show up at events so people can see you a few times and interact with you to gain confidence with you and also know what you do.

4. Ask for referrals. Don’t hesitate to ask for referrals. The way to ask is to just put it out there. Say I am always looking for people (insert your service or what you do) that would fit that description. Ask in a way that doesn’t put them on the spot. Make them feel good about giving you the referral.

Don’t forget to say thank you. Written, verbal or giving a gift is important to receiving referrals to building your business.
