3 Skills A Delivery Manager Needs

The world, as we see it, has changed a lot, hasn’t it? There was a time when people would travel miles after miles to get the experience of a store, a product, or service. That changed big time. Businesses and their Leader came to the understanding that it is much more beneficial to both parties, the business, and customers if companies follow a customer-centric approach.

Be a cost leader, or have a differentiation. This means, if you are in the flower delivery business, you can either find a way to sell cheap flowers or maintain a superior delivery service and experience. So, how can you do both?

That is, the companies will do everything within their capabilities to reach the goods straight to the customers, and not the other way around. Or, maybe, the competition increased to such an extent, and gaining information became so easy that the customers really have become the king.

The businesses which still failed to understand the need to use technology, the internet, and finding ways to reach their product to the customers will have an eye-opener through the pandemic. To compete and survive in the business, there are two options, either fight in prices or in quality of service.

Tips, Tricks, or Skills

As an entrepreneur, you might deliver your product by yourself to the nearby locations, or when you are just in the introduction stage. I personally would recommend doing so as for a business to have a foothold, the support of the community is a must.

What better way to gather that support and instigate them to keep backing you and your business than showing up at their doorstep with their orders, showing how much you care, exchanging greetings, suggestions, and words of value.

However, as you scale up, find customers far away from you, or have loads of orders to fulfill, you will find it efficient to turnover the delivery part to a dedicated team. At the same time, you take the role of managing all the functions.

Some of the qualities that will help you maintain all these functions smoothly are:

Technical Knowledge

Knowledge is crucial. You need to know of all the mishaps, technical glitches, problems that your team might face. It can be something related to transportation, or how the product needs to be fixed to the vehicle, how it should be carried, or maybe something associated with the roadway of delivery. You will have to provide solutions to each problem instantly through your expertise.

People and Leadership Skills

More or less, every one of us hates controlling parents. Similarly, in the job fields, every employee hates a superior who tries to manage them. You must remember your job is to lead the employees, not manage them.

You should mix in with your team members, be willing to listen to them, give feedback, have empathy, and, if need be, support them through broken relationships. A clear communication channel is a must while you show them how to do a job and not getting in between them.

Responsibility Shall Come with Authority

It is common to get protective of the company or department that is within your control. However, this is no efficient way to progress. To scale up efficiently, you need to delegate tasks to others, trust them, give them the authority and jurisdiction to make decisions on their own regarding their jobs. You must remind them and yourselves about the goals, missions, and vision of the company, and their particular job is.
