How to Use a Vape Pen with No Button

A vape pen with no button is the simplest type of vape pen that you can buy. Vape pens without buttons are great for beginners because there’s almost nothing to learn – you can just pick the device up and start vaping. They’re also great for anyone who simply wants to keep their experience as simple and straightforward as possible.

Before you can really dive in, though, it’s helpful to know a bit about how your device works.Don’t have time to read the instruction manual? We’ve got you covered. Here’s how to use a vape pen with no button.

Taking the Device Out of the Package

Vape pens without buttons come in two different forms. You can use a disposable vape pen – which comes filled, charged and ready to use – or you can use a 510-thread battery, which is a non-disposable device that requires a separate cartridge containing vape oil. We’ll explain how to use both, starting with the unpacking phase.

  • If you’re using a disposable vape pen, the mouthpiece will most likely have a silicone plug or cover that you’ll need to remove and discard. Check for a strip of tape covering the device’s airflow vent. You can also discard this.
  • If you’re using a refillable vape pen, there’s not much to do after you’ve removed the device from the box. Your vape pen may be covered with protective plastic film, which you can discard.
  • A vape cartridge will typically have two silicone covers: one on the mouthpiece and another protecting the bottom threading. You can remove both of these. You might want to keep them rather than discarding them, though, because they can be helpful to prevent leaks during storage.

Charging the Battery

If you’re using a disposable vape pen, there’s no need to charge the battery before vaping because the device should arrive with a charged battery. A reusable vape pen, however, needs to be charged before you can use it.

  • Connect the vape pen to your computer with the included charging cable. The device’s light should turn on. When the battery is fully charged, the light will either go dark or change to a different color.
  • If your device’s light blinks when you try to vape, the battery is probably dead. Connect it to your computer to recharge it. This applies to both disposable and reusable vape pens.

Some vape pens – especially disposable ones – don’t include charging cables. In that case, you can use any USB cable that fits the device’s charging port.

Connecting the Cartridge

If you have a refillable vape pen, you’ll need to connect a cartridge to the device before using it. The cartridge should be filled with oil and ready to use.

  • If your vape pen has exposed threading, simply twist the cartridge into the threading until it’s tight and doesn’t wobble. Don’t over-tighten it.
  • If your vape pen has hidden threading, the connection may be magnetic. In this case, the device will include a magnetic connector that screws into the bottom of the cartridge. After installing the connector, simply drop the cartridge into the device. When it’s time to throw the cartridge away, don’t forget to remove the connector first.

Connecting a cartridge to a vape pen is essentially what turns the device on and off since there’s no button. If you won’t be using your device for a while and want to be sure that it can’t activate, simply disconnect the cartridge.

You don’t need to worry about connecting a cartridge if you’re using a disposable device. Disposable vape pens are filled with oil when you buy them and aren’t refillable.

Vaping

To use a vape pen with no button, simply puff on the mouthpiece. Your device has sensor that turns the device on when air travels through the airflow channel. Inhale and exhale the vapor as if you were smoking.

  • A vape pen requires much less air pressure than a cigarette or joint. If you hear a gurgling sound when you use your device, puff more gently because the excess air pressure could cause the device to clog or leak.
  • Your vape pen may have a slider that adjusts the airflow. Move the slider to make your puffs tighter or looser. Some vape cartridges also have rotating collars that adjust their airflow characteristics.

What Do You Do if a Vape Pen with No Button Blinks?

A vape pen uses a light to communicate its status. Normally, the light will illuminate solidly when you puff on the device, with the color signifying the battery’s current charge level. If yourvape pen blinks when you puff on it, that’s not normal, and it indicates a problem with the device.

When your vape pen has a blinking light, the number of blinks indicates what the problem is. Different vape pens have different error codes, so you’ll need to consult the instruction manual to find out what’s happening with your device. We’ll discuss the four different things that the blinking light can potentially mean.

  • Dead Battery: If your vape pen started blinking in the middle of a session, the most likely problem is that the battery is dead. If the light illuminates, the device is now charging. Charge the battery fully and try using your vape pen again.
  • Puff Timer Exceeded: Every vape pen has a built-in puff timer that’s designed to prevent the device from overheating. The timer is typically about seven seconds long. If you take an extremely long puff, the device will automatically cut off and blink. If your vape pen began blinking while you were puffing on it, you most likely exceeded the timer and need to take shorter puffs.
  • Overheating: Most vape pens have built-in temperature sensors to help prevent overheating. If your vape pen started blinking while you were vaping outside on a sunny day, it’s possible that the device has reached its internal temperature limit. Move your vape pen to a cooler location and wait for it to cool down completely before you resume vaping.
  • Short Circuit: If a vape pen detects a short circuit between the device and the connected cartridge, it’ll blink to let you know that there’s a problem. Remove the cartridge and check for a leak. If you find oil in your vape pen’s threading, clean it with a cotton swab and a little rubbing alcohol. Dry the device and cartridge and try vaping again. If your vape pen continues blinking, try using a different cartridge.
