How to Prevent a Hospital Stay from Slowing You Down

No one wants to spend time and money in a hospital unless they absolutely have to, but it doesn’t necessarily mean their lives will also be slowed down or affected permanently in the process. Here is a short guide that will hopefully help you to adjust properly after a hospital stay.

Understand the Difference Between Recovery and Slowing Down

This is where most patients get it wrong, because they cannot differentiate between the recovery period and the fact that they have slowed down even after that.

It’s not the patient’s fault at all, because the distinction is a slim one, but understanding that subtle difference is important all the same.

After a major surgery or other prolonged treatments in a hospital, you are supposed to take it slow and let your body and mind heal from the whole experience. However, if you notice that even the advised rest period plus a few weeks isn’t enough to get you back started with your regular life, it’s a sign of a problem which could be physical, but is most often psychological.

How to Know If You are being Slowed Down by Your Body or Your Mind

The simple solution would be to visit your doctor and get yourself checked for any recurring or new physical abnormalities that might be causing issues with post-treatment adjustment. If nothing physical can be determined, then you should go for a psychiatric evaluation to confirm whether your mind is having trouble adjusting with the changes, after spending so many days in the hospital.

Make an Effort Towards Getting Back to Regular Activities

An effort towards preventing slowdowns post a hospital stay does not mean forcing yourself to get up to speed. If the problem has been diagnosed as psychological, then the effort to preventing slow downs should involve regular therapy and medication, as necessary. At the same time, you need to keep going at it, albeit with small steps.

Some patients find their respite in religion, while others seek solace in their family members; both are excellent ideas, as they provide mental support to the recovering patient.

Can It Happen to a New Born?

Under normal circumstances, a new born baby should not be affected by a hospital stay, but if there is an issue during childbirth, then it can have devastating effects on the entire future of the child.

Cerebral palsy claims for medical negligence cost the NHS a huge chunk of money every year, which doesn’t even account for the lawsuits filed against private facilities that are not under the control of the NHS.

Cerebral palsy doesn’t just slow down the life of the child temporarily, but it’s a permanent condition that occurs when the infant’s brain gets damaged during childbirth due to a temporary lack of oxygen.

Although cerebral palsy isn’t degenerative, the symptoms often get worse as the patients begin to grow older. If you have any reason to suspect that your child is suffering from cerebral palsy due to medical negligence, the least you deserve is financial compensation, which no one should ever hesitate to seek as soon as possible.
