Dr. Tom Ziering, MD, who leads Ziering CCPHP, a membership-model program focused on optimizing health care, providing primary care, LBGTQ care, concierge medicine, and healthcare for all families while fostering strong doctor-patient relationships joins Enterprise Fit Radio.

Listen to host Eric Dye & guest Dr. Tom Ziering discuss the following:

  1. Dr. Ziering, why don’t’ you start by telling us about how you became a physician and why you chose to focus on family medicine for all families?
  2. What made you decide to transition to a concierge model? How did you see it benefiting you as a physician (model of care, financial sustainability, professional and personal flexibility, etc.)?
  3. What do you see as the key benefits to the Members of your concierge program? Have there been any particular benefits during the COVID pandemic?
  4. How have your patients reacted to the change? How do you find that this model contributes to helping patients seek optimal health?
  5. What would your best advice be for other doctors who are considering transitioning to a concierge model?

Dr. Ziering’s innate passion for healthcare and drive to pursue a career in Family Medicine began at an early age. Both he, his siblings, parents, and grandparents were seen by the same Family Physician (who also delivered Dr. Ziering) and he found the concept to be comprehensive, inspiring, and familiar. After attending Muhlenberg College and graduating Magna Cum Laude with a dual major in Biology and Natural Science, he went on to receive his MD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Rutgers).

He attended the Robert Wood Johnson/Somerset Medical Center Family Practice Program, graduating with the Resident Educator Award by Colleagues. He was recognized as a National Speaker in various aspects of healthcare both physical and emotional. Postgraduate, Dr. Ziering opened his own private office and served as a Clinical Researcher for Experimental Medications involved in the first wave of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Ever eager to learn new material at the time of the “wave” of antidepressant development, Dr. Ziering became an educator on the subject for the University System. Dr. Ziering’s passion to remain on the frontlines during the HIV/AIDS pandemic mirrors his approach in caring and for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has been available to his patients via telehealth and has remained in-office so that patients could be treated in person, should the need arise.

Shortly after joining Morristown Medical Center in 1992, Dr. Ziering became Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine. Aside from traditional family practice caring for both newborns and seniors alike, he continued to research areas new to medicine. His additional studies taught him about Transitional Medicine and Healthcare unique to the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Community). He became a Medical Director for LGBTQ Healthcare while maintaining his traditional practice base. Dr. Ziering wishes to create a safe haven for ALL families regardless of race, beliefs, religion, and sexual identity.

To reinforce the feeling of comfort, Dr. Ziering’s practice to this day does not have the appearance of a medical office. The exam rooms are designed to look like small living rooms, affording face-to-face contact in a calm and tranquil environment. Aromatherapy, water fountains, and sound soothers are also utilized along with the joy of having a Therapy Dog, Bentley (a 15-pound cockapoo), who is in the office to help allay fears and concerns.

During Dr. Ziering’s tenure of 30 plus years, he has been recognized for his exceptional work, receiving over 20 different honors and awards throughout his career including Top Docs in the Castle Connolly Guide to the Best Doctors in the Tristate Area, New Jersey Magazine, Inside New Jersey Magazine, New York Magazine, Ladies Home Journal, US News and World Report, Best Physicians in Women’s Healthcare, Best Physicians in LGBTIQ Medicine, Most Compassionate Doctors and America’s Most Honored Doctors among others. Dr. Ziering is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practitioners, an honor bestowed to those Board-Certified Family Doctors who maintain a more than active role in personal education and exemplary expertise in the Specialty of Family Practice Medicine.

When Dr. Ziering is not caring for his diverse patient base and focusing on healthcare, he enjoys spending time with his family, gardening, cooking, swimming, traveling, movies, theater, and the arts. He and his husband reside in Randolph, New Jersey; they have two grown children, a granddaughter, and a dog.
