About lia sophia

Jewelry has been a passion in the Kiam family for decades, but lia sophia isn’t their first jewelry company. Victor Kiam and his wife, Ellen – Tory’s parents – learned a great deal about the business from developing the Marquis de Maimone collection of jewelry, which they selected and imported from Italy. And, later, the Friendship Collection, which they started as a mom-and‐pop enterprise in their apartment. By the early 1980s the Friendship Collection had grown into America’s largest importer of jewelry from China.

Victor was a dynamic, visionary man, full of curiosity and eager to share his love of entrepreneurship. In 1986 he purchased Act II Jewelry, LLC in part because he liked how it helped support women in starting their own businesses. At the time, Tory was a graduate student at Stanford’s business school, and Victor had asked him to analyze Act II’s prospects. Tory concluded that direct selling provided great earning opportunities, flexible working hours and enhanced self‐esteem for the women involved. In essence, it was an industry for and about entrepreneurs.

Act II was renamed Lady Remington, to align the brand with the Remington shaver company Victor already had purchased and revitalized to resounding success and considerable fame. He established a Lifetime Replacement Guarantee for Lady Remington jewelry because he knew how much that confidence had meant for customers in his other businesses. And he sought to create a family atmosphere at Lady Remington, making sure each Advisor knew how important she was to the company, and to him. Many lia sophia Advisors from the era still fondly remember Victor urging them on with an enthusiastic, “Go for it!” — and many, many people around the world were inspired by Victor’s books about entrepreneurship.

With Victor’s passing in 2001, the Kiam family continued to grow and develop the company that meant so much to him. They established the Victor Kiam Award to honor outstanding sales achievement. Ellen began designing a small but elegant collection within the brand, inspired by her love of jewelry, art and design. And in 2004, Tory and Elena changed the brand name to that of their daughters as part of a broader brand update, reflecting their commitment to the family business.

In 2009, the brand expanded to Canada, and two years later, to Europe. Today, Tory and Elena work together — with Tory as president and Elena as creative director — and continue to evolve and grow lia sophia, the world’s leading fashion jewelry company. And a new collection of lia sophia styles appropriate for mothers and for their daughters has the brand crossing over to a third generation of Kiams. But whatever the era, lia sophia will always be a brand about the value of family and the joys of empowering women to reach their dreams, together.
