So the theatrical the back story around the company on our site here, on our about us page. But here is a little more context and backstory around me personally.

I have been a Millstone, NJ resident now all my life. I graduated from Rutgers in 2011 with a degree in economics and currently work full time in NYC (2+ hours on a bus each way from Millstone, NJ) for a financial technology firm. Commuting for so many hours is both a blessing and a curse in that once I started commuting, I now had 4 hours a day where the only options for entertainment were listen to music, sleep, or learn. And while believe me, I did a lot of the first two options there, I eventually got bored and started listening to podcasts and audio books and that’s really where the inspiration came from to bring this company to life.

So while working in financial technology is a far cry from making and selling sunglasses, I think this has been a great outlet for both the creative and entrepreneurial elements of my personality. Those are two things that just have no place in my little corner (cubicle) of corporate America.

I founded Shadetree earlier this year with two close friends of mine: Scott Pimentel who introduced me to the world of product sales and global sourcing, and Chas Maraldo who was a childhood friend and Millstone resident whom I had recently reconnected with. Chas helps me with all of the technical aspects of building and maintaining a website.

Since launching this year we have really gained a lot of momentum, which has been amazing. We originally launched with 11 style options on our website, and we are looking to finish the summer with closer to 30 unique offerings including some styles made of Cork wood, which are 100% unique to our company and brand. Our goal for next year is to be able to offer between 50-75 unique styles through our site, so needless to say we have a lot of work to do still! We challenge you to look at other sunglass picks.
