How to Speak Effectively on Radio and Television with Dr. Bill Lampton

Suggestions for Radio/TV Interview Preparation

1. Prior to the show send the host your sample questions.

2. Use your natural voice.

3. Your goal is to answer in sentences and not long paragraphs or full page responses. One-word answers are also a NO NO!

4. Talk and don’t read.

5. In using notes, avoid turning pages loudly.

6. Gesture if it’s normal to you in every day conversation. When facing the TV camera, limit your gestures-making them close to the body to stay within camera range.

7. Clothing isn’t important on a radio show but for TV stay away from gaudy material. You want the viewer to remember your content not the package.

8. Demonstrate vigor, zest, and commitment to your subject.

9. Tune into TV and Radio talk shows for a few days before you make your guest appearance.
