TIP: For almost every financial professional, there is an online alternative — as is the case with almost everything these days. You can buy insurance online, do your taxes with online software, and more recently, we are seeing the rise of online investment advisers and marketplaces. The decision to use an online investment advisory service often involves weighing convenience and lower costs, versus the “brick-and-mortar” approach of live, face-to-face meetings. One attractive approach might be a mix of technology and “human touch.” In other words, a service that takes advantage of the rise of online communication, but the advice comes from a real person who you know and trust. For those comfortable with technology, but who see the value in non-algorithmic human decision-making, this can be an ideal marriage.
